Feasibility studies for extending and remodelling The Atwell Wilson Motor museum. The existing museum was run by a trust in close collaboration with the owners of the museum site and part of the vehicle collection. The museum collection had significantly out grown the storage and exhibition space available, the site layout was rather muddled, the museum was not visible from the road, and access involved passing through the domestic curtilage of the site owners. A site and building redevelopment plan rationalised the site layout to allow public visibility of the museum and improved highway access and a separate entrance from adjacent residential elements. The building redevelopment focused on improved appearance of the museum, better presentation of the collection and the development of education, entertainment and refreshment facilities We developed proposals to take a scrappily presented site and agricultural style buildings and step up a level to a professional modern museum where the best of the collection was presented to a high standard. The project involved Heritage Lottery application review advice, and development of scheme for funding enabling development.
