Listed Building - Grade II, New Build
Alec French Architects , 27 Trenchard Street , BRISTOL , Avon , BS1 5AN , United Kingdom
Following Urban Design consultancy on the expansion of Bristol's main shopping centre, Broadmead, the Practice was appointed to be lead architects for the area known as Quakers Friars with it's focus on the remnants of a medieval friary and the 1747 Quakers Meeting, now a marriage registry. This major project involves creating a new inward-looking public square with some 200 apartments over retail including a landmark apartment tower of 14 storeys over a three storey department store base. The new area formed around the listed buildings acts as a link between The Galleries ( Bristol's main covered shopping centre ) and the proposed new retail sector which expands Broadmead to the east. The project was completed September 2009.
