The new headquarters for Aardman Animations provides state of the art accommodation and a central focus for this world-renown film and animation group. A wide range of environmental features have been incorporated within the building, along with a host of specialist areas designed to enhance the creative environment. The design fundamentals and material specification were developed with both sustainability and healthy working environments to the fore. The new headquarters provides a viewing theatre with a state of the art projection room and associated editing facilities and archivist areas. In providing these areas, we have gained detailed knowledge in the requirements for properly handling and viewing valuable film material. Our role on the Aardman Project was that of Team Leader up to RIBA Stage E. This covered close dialogue with the client, coordination of the full design team, and careful monitoring of costs and securing planning permission. After the award of the contract we were novated to the contractor on the basis that the design was largely complete. In a separate role, we supported the Project Manager to review any proposed changes.
