The brief was for a new office building to Passivhaus standard. The client couple run a business consultancy and a tutoring business, for which they needed adequate and comfortable space. The building had to be efficient to run as well as offering special surroundings to take clients as well as children out of their usual surroundings to foster positive & creative thinking. The building houses four offices as well as a meeting room, all of which have light streaming into them from the mostly south and west-facing windows. A small wood-burner in the meeting room provides some additional warmth on particularly cold and overcast days. The construction method was timber frame with external wood-fibreboard insulation, the sedum roof helps the building to blend in. The project was completed on time and on budget and achieved Passivhaus certification in the autumn of 2017.
