This project is the complete renovation of a small house in Highgate Village in Notting Hill. The client is a young couple who wanted accommodation just for their own use. The brief was to develop a completely modern interior which reflected their way of living, but an interior that interfaces well with the Georgian exterior. The house is on three floors, including a basement. There is small rear patio, and a rear terrace at ground floor. The design provides for two bedrooms and two bathrooms in the basement, an open plan kitchen and dining room on the ground floor and an open plan living space at first floor. The kitchen/dining room is organised around an enormous penisular unit which incorporates an oval glass dining table. Extensive cupboard space is provided in a series of false walls. New staircases have been incorporated in the design; a stone staicase descends down to the basement and an innovative structural glass staircase rises up to the first floor, up to the light flooding down from a new rooflight which runs the full depth of the house.
