The site was bounded on three sides by Green Belt land and the fourth by a residential area. Over a number of years the site had been developed and thus ground area was at a premium. It was therefore decided that the best volume for development was to build in the air space above an existing single storey changing room, imagine an open hand spanning across a closed hand. The project was completed on site in just over a year and includes 18 state of the art classrooms the upper storey of which have removable partitions for flexible teaching and assembly spaces.
