Seaton Delaval Hall Hall was designed,grade 1 listed building,was designed by Sir John Vanbrugh in the 1790s.The East Wing was originally designed as the mansions stable block ,with accommodation for stable hands on first floor.Today the main stables remain much as they were in the 1726.The first floor being used for Prisoners of war during the second world war.The east wing has a dual pitched felt roof supported by king post trusses.The existing roof covering of bitumen felt replaced what was left of the original lead roof.The outer walls are of coursed ashlar sandstone varying in thickness from 1500mm to 450mm.Decorative urns on the roof have suffered badly over many years weathering.Erosion and dampness through water ingress is apparent in several areas.A new roof and correction of eroded areas and water ingress were necessary.Stainless steel roof was eventually chosen as the roof replacement material.The whole building was covered during the construction period to maintain building work during the winter period.
