Stoke-on-Trent
New Build
Butts Green is an elevated area on the extreme eastern edge of Abbey Hulton. The scheme consists of a contemporary mix of dwelling types designed to meet Level 3 of the Code for Sustainalbe Homes. The properties are orientated on the site to allow the use of solar collectors on the roof. In 2005, Ainsely Gommon carried out a master-plan on the Abbey Hulton estate, on behalf of the Affinity Sutton Group, working with Stoke City Council. A number of key infill sites and development opportunities were identified through a consultation process and Butts Green was one such site. Part of the site was occupied by one-bedroom deck-access flats but these became increasingly difficult to let. After further consultation, Ainsley Gommon prepared proposals for a development of 79 bungalows and family houses. The houses are grouped to gain maximum benefit from the topography of the site, from which views are available up and across the Trent Valley to the Peak District in the North and to Hanley city centre in the West. The edge of the site includes a steep sided and heavily wooded valley with a small stream flowing through it. This area has been improved as an informal area of parkland creates an attractive setting for the housing and provides amenity for the residents of Butts Green.
