AGA Associates were commissioned to design and deliver a comprehensive internal reconfiguration and triple-storey extension for a residential property on Grange Road. The project sought to create a seamless balance between contemporary architecture and the historic character of the surrounding period buildings. A key design feature of the extension was the use of contemporary façade treatments, arranged in a grid-like style to establish a rhythmic relationship with the proportions and detailing of the traditional buildings within its context. This carefully considered approach allowed the extension to feel both modern and contextual, respecting the architectural heritage of the street while delivering a bold and striking aesthetic. To complement this contemporary cladding system, we specified grey metal window and door frames, reinforcing the clean lines and minimalist expression of the design. Large openings and carefully curated glazing enhanced natural light penetration, creating a strong visual and spatial connection between the internal living spaces and the landscaped garden. Internally, the reconfiguration focused on improving circulation, optimising functionality, and enhancing natural light. The ground floor was opened up to accommodate a spacious kitchen, dining, and living area, while the upper level provided additional bedrooms and a master suite, tailored to modern living requirements. This project reflects AGA Associates’ expertise in crafting contemporary extensions that sensitively respond to their historic surroundings, integrating innovative design solutions with material choices that elevate both aesthetics and performance.
