Brownfield site
Bishop's Bridge was a large development named after a Victorian bridge at one end of the site. It involved turning a brown field derelict site into a park with sports facilities below popping through at various locations. This inner city intervention was to serve the surrounding public and private high density residential accommodation. The aquatics centre indicated on this one point computer generated perspective drawing was one of three sports halls. It included swimming, diving and a kids pool. Modest spectator seating was also provided. The lightweight ribbed roof was supported by Western Red Cedar Glu-Lam pylons. The centre of the roof incorporated a translucent roof-light providing much needed daylight. The translucent glass block walls between the park and the aquatics centre provided glimpses of the activity below by various abstract transparent vision panels. This project has not been built.
