Since 1998, AECOM has been working with Royal Victoria Hospital, the largest acute hospital in Northern Ireland. Phase 1 of this complex project comprised a new £42m seven storey redevelopment comprising outpatients, operating theatres, pharmacy and 390 beds for inpatient care. Phase 2A involved a new Imaging Centre and Central Decontamination Unit and phase 2B featured a new 25,000m2 Critical Care Centre comprising A&E department, operating theatres and 32 bed regional Intensive Care Unit. In 2012, Belfast Trust appointed a multidisciplinary design team for a new framework. AECOM, acting as lead consultant and partnered with Isherwood & Ellis, won the resulting design competition and are currently delivering various projects. Phase 1 involved a new maternity hospital housing a midwife-led unit, delivery rooms, theatres and neonatal. In addition, Phase 2 is a new £125m regional children’s hospital containing wards, theatres, critical care and outpatient areas.
