As part of National Grid’s innovative Smart Workspace programme, AECOM created a design for the new workspace at their Homer Road location, as well as a complex change management programme to run in parallel. A deconstructed start up design language and a complementary communications campaign, drew together all the elements needed to create a workspace which unites the new team and encourages collaboration, reduces hierarchy and supports colleagues working together and learning from each other. With approximately 420 employees based in this location, the project was not only an opportunity to create a new workplace, but also to create a new, innovative culture amongst the users. The overall Smart WorkSpace programme shows a 5 per cent increase in collaborative activity and a 16 per cent reduction in energy usage.
