Working with the Luton and Dunstable NHS Trust, ADP has created a masterplan, which will help develop their estate over the next 20 years. This involves analyzing the hospital site to advise the Trust on how to best rationalize their departments, giving due consideration given to future flexibility, clinical requirements and current trends. The masterplan will include the assessment of provision for A&E theatres, a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Women and Children’s Services, strategic business units and a nursing school building. As vehicular and pedestrian access to the site is constrained, the masterplan will review the site to rationalise car parking and infrastructure routes. As part of the long-term objectives at the hospital, ADP has been appointed to develop a new NICU to improve the Women’s Services at the site. The new facility will incorporate 46 cots and associated clinical support facilities, located next to the women’s hospital. Additional cot spaces will be designed to suit NHS and the British Association of Perinatal Medicine guidelines. As part of the NICU project, ADP has been also working with the Maternity Department at Luton and Dunstable Hospital to develop existing facilities to provide a Midwife Led Unit (MLU). The emphasis of this unit is to provide optimal birthing spaces and facilities that focus on the mother and partner, providing an environment that is less stressful and conducive to normal birth. ADP originally became involved at Luton and Dunstable Hospital in the construction of a new Oncology unit on the first floor of an existing building at the front of the hospital site. The building remained occupied for most of the contract and the main service access past the building was maintained at all times.
