New Build
The Edison , 223-231 Old Marylebone Road , London , NW1 5QT , United Kingdom
The Hackney Fashion Hub is a highly contemporary development that expresses the subtleties of Hackney’s unique urban DNA, while reinventing the urban realm to be welcoming, lively and creatively exciting. Resonating with the area’s historic associations with the fashion industry, the building facades catch the light to produce a rhythmic texture that is animating and inviting, while the historic arches are carefully preserved and celebrated – so there is a dialogue between old and new that ties the historic essence of Hackney to its forward momentum. The project will redevelop the area between Hackney Central Station and the end of Morning Lane Arches to the east. The aim is to create a new destination with a distinct urban atmosphere. The regeneration starts with the arches along Morning Lane (Phase I). The arches and two new buildings at Chatham Place will form the Hackney Fashion Hub. Local designers will have small workshops with showrooms next to established brands, while restaurants and cafés complete the mix. Later, the railway arches next to Hackney Central will be refurbished and the Tesco site will be redeveloped. Finally, it is envisaged to build a hotel on the site of the old bus depot facing the park to the north. The entire area will have a continuous public realm, with a hard and soft landscape strategy to tie the different land uses together and create a unique identity.
