AD Architects designed the new maternity services building completed in December 2010 using the NHS Procure 21 method by Medicinq Osborne. The new building has 20 delivery rooms and two theatres. The service is divided between midwifery led, and consultant led units. The scheme unites the whole service to refurbished areas including the neonatal unit which has increased from 20 to 30 cots and takes infants of a higher acuity care. The new building has a BREEAM Excellent rating. Speaking to the BBC in April 2011, Nick Carver, Chief Executive of the East and North Herts NHS Trust said: "It's a wonderful new facility which stands in comparison with the best that the National Health Service or private sector can provide." Helen Altrincham, Head of Midwifery, interviewed on BBC South East in October 2011 said: "We're very proud of our beautiful new surroundings."
