The building contains full-scale training laboratories for intensive care, pharmacies and clinical skills and is the UK's largest Medical Simulation Centre (HICESC). The then Minister of State for Science and Innovation, Dr Ian Pearson, MP said at the opening: "This is a bricks and mortar example of our Science Research Infrastructure Fund (SRIF) at work. This state-of-the-art building highlights the commitment of this university to take on and develop innovative medical technology, to help provide the highest standard of training for our next generation of healthcare workers, along with ensuring excellence in its research facilities. The University of Hertfordshire is a good model for future universities". In an address to University donors and benefactors in April 2010, Vice-Chancellor Professor Tim Wilson said: "Our Medical Simulation Centre is world-class. There is no other way to describe it..... world-class".
