Peake House is the former West berkshire Registry Office. We spotted the huge potential that this property had to become a private home and introduced the property to our clients. Luckily they shared the vision and we embarked on a process of refurbishment, slowly restoring the property to it's former glory. Much attention was given to reinstating classic room proportions and dimensions and repairing and reinstating authentic period details. At the same time the need for contemporary spaces, light and openness was recognised. A large kitchen diner was created and new french doors were installed to open the property up to the garden (former car park). The building fabric was repaired internally and externally and the front of the property was repainted and finished. We worked with the client who is a graphic designer on the interiors. A bold balck oak floor was installed throughout, providing the perfect foil to a muted colour scheme and some graphic artworks. Two wood burning fireplaces heat the large building and provide a focus and heart to the home. The property is now much loved by all in the area with many remembering a birth or marriage as they wander past.
