167-169 Great Portland street , 5th Floor , London , London , W1W 5PF , United Kingdom
We were appointed to carry out a complete renovation of a flat within a Victorian building on a leafy street of Hampstead. The new owner aimed to transform the existing property into a welcoming new home while improving its thermal and acoustic performance. Our design approach focused on creating a comfortable home respectful of the heritage of the building and its surroundings, modern yet timeless. The project was developed through extensive design reviews and consultations with the client. Together we finalized the changes to the plan that resulted in opening up and joining the kitchen and living room and re-planning the bathroom into a wet room. A selection of high quality natural materials such as oaks, marbles, mosaics and ceramic tiles was used throughout the whole flat. Meticulous attention to detail throughout the project resulted in bespoke designs applied from joinery to lighting, furniture and cabinets. Being on the top floor of the building, the flat benefits from unobstructed views of London and lends itself to work naturally with light. We worked with both natural daylight entering the flat from a series of skylights as well as with unobtrusive, dimmable LED lights. A number of lighting schemes have been designed throughout the house to allow for greater freedom and flexibility of use on a daily basis. The client loves the newfound character of the apartment, which is now entirely transformed into a modern home build to last. "Alex did a great job designing my entire flat from scratch. I'm not a visually minded person and he made it extremely easy for me to choose a design that would look great but also reflected what I wanted. He is a very talented architect with a real eye for harmonious colour schemes and beautiful small touches that make a place special. I'm grateful to him for all his advice and inspiration." James
