New Build
The Experimental Station in Dungeness was used as a research establishment testing marine apparatus and is now a site of special scientific interest. Collaborating with Johnson Naylor, 51 architecture created a new assembly of eco buildings around a common courtyard shared with existing structures that included a small railway, a radio tower and a fog horn testing structure. The cedar clad architecture is a minimalist approach to the language of the old and new, designed to age sympathetically with the surrounding landscape. Mentioned in the Sunday Times as “A near-perfect architectural piece - the muted driftwood-grey boxes are weathering beautifully”
