Social Cinema is a series of temporary cinemas, each installed for one night only into the urban fabric between Exmouth Market and the Millennium Bridge as part of the London Festival of Architecture. Films about, set in or commenting on London and its architecture are stunningly projected upon the city itself. The fabric of the temporary cinemas is improvisatory, playful and subtle. At each location, buildings become screens, pallets ‘borrowed’ from Smithfield Market temporary bleachers and plastic crates from local pubs seating. Owners of nearby buildings generously give power, loan their houses as projection booths and join the audience.
