Transformation of a London apartment to evoke feelings of the landscapes of Italian our clients’ childhood. A bright and carefully limited palette stresses natural textures and light. A new digitally crafted timber stair leads to a roof terrace with stunning views over the city. In line with 51 architecture’s sustainable ethos, the ash timber used for stairs and flooring is hewn from local tree crowns felled by strong winds. Built using a combination of boatbuilding techniques and digital fabrication, working with engineers Price and Myers and carpenters on site to create a stair with no structural steel or visible fixings.
