Sited in AONB, Sited in Greenbelt land, Within a Conservation Area
This iconic modernist home in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Surrey Hills is located on greenbelt land surrounded by natural woodland and ecologically sensitive National Trust land. In granting Full Planning Permission, the planning officers and Surrey Hills Design Panel agreed that the design is of the highest architectural quality. Significantly there were no objections to its successful planning application. From the front the horizontal, modern design is clad in locally sourced oak and pristine white render. It is discretely located behind an earth berm. Extensive screen planting and gabion wall made from local stone are positioned to create a landscaped courtyard in front of the house. On its opposite, south, side the house has extensive glazing overlooking its garden and the beautiful Surrey Hills beyond. Working closely with landscape architects Armstrong Bell, we have created a garden surrounding by natural woodland without harm to existing specimen trees. Living rooms and state of the art kitchen are provided with floor to ceiling glazing that can be slid aside to open the split level living areas to the leafy south facing gardens. The sustainable design includes porous paving, discrete photovoltaic cells on the roof, grey water recycling and air to air source heat pumps.
