Bealsmill - Stoke Climsland Feasibility study for private client to create two contemporary dwellings on a former industrial site in the small village of Bealsmill. The site is fairly level, bounded on the north side of the River Inny, with the adjacent dwelling part of the historic mill use of the land. The design concept for the scheme was to create two distinct contemporary dwellings which sat comfortable in their surroundings. Further to this, it was proposed to evoke the sites former use to create a mill pond by diverting a culvert which runs across the eastern boundary. The mill pond would help to control water-flow across the site, with a sluice gate utilised at times of increased capacity. It was proposed that the mill pond would have ground source heat pipe 'slinkies' installed across its base to provide renewable energy for the properties together with Photovoltaic / Solar Thermal collectors and rain water harvesting.
