The new terminal at Gibraltar aims to create a world-class facility on the site of an ageing and disparate collection of buildings. Utilising the stunning backdrop of the famous Rock landmark, the terminal building uses a fully glazed façade to maximise daylight and allow views out across the water and to the rock itself, with a large, over-sailing roof that provides shelter from strong sunlight. The new terminal retains the close proximity of passenger zones to the activity and theatre of the airport operations, providing an extensive roof-terrace where passengers can gather and enjoy the local climate and aircraft movements. Public realm is further enhanced by a wide public plaza at the entrance to the terminal and has become a local meeting point for both visitors and residents of the town
