A semi-detached bungalow was purchased by the client with a view to modifying it to use as a work/live space as an artist. The good sized plot, was extended to the rear and at loft level (hip to gable), and the garage converted to form a separate studio and bike store/utility. The client liked to work and live outside as much as possible and the scheme includes large overhanging roofs (planted) and pergolas to be trained with planting on the south facade. The geometry of the roofs and extensions are set out by the views and shape of the site and to create a distinction between 'work' and domesticity. We obtained planning approval in July 2021 and have commenced building control and tender information (schedule of works). The client is keen on imbuing the project with a sustainable agenda and to support this we are looking at materials, construction techniques and reducing waste where possible. We are also providing party wall services.
