The Woodgreen Community Shop Association was set up in 2006 to save the village shop and PO. Retirement of the previous owners and expiry of the lease in 2011 inspired a communal effort to build a larger new shop to serve all the neighbouring villages. The wish for a minimal environmental impact re-enforced by the desire for local products and labour for construction and trading, was further encouraged by grants available for Sustainability. The New Forest National Park Authority was supportive in planning guidance and funding Low Carbon elements of the project.
