4th Floor , 65 Goswell Road , London , EC1V 7EN , United Kingdom

Hildrey Studio was commissioned to design of the refurbishment of West London Mission's day centre at Seymour Place in Marylebone, London. Through an in-depth process of co-design with the client and those facing various forms of trauma, the proposal was shaped into a transparent, community driven space - safe from stigma and open to all. The Grade-II listed building was previously home to Emma Cons - philanthropist and founder of both the Old Vic Theatre and the South London Dwellings Company. In the spirit of the original temperance lodge at both Seymour Place and the Old Vic Theatre, the ground floor space will be opened up to the community for alcohol-free refreshments and a calendar of community, arts, and educational events. Clients in need of treatments for trauma, homelessness, and isolation will be given the opportunity for training and employment, helping make the centre a truly sustainable source of support in the community. The proposals will celebrate the heritage of the site while offering an unprecedented level of community support and accessibility.
