The church is included on the Statutory List as Grade II* and is located close to an ancient monument, within a Conservation Area and surrounded by gravestones. Despite these constraints a new Chapter House extension has been completed on two storeys with the upper lounge overlooking the town. A new vestry, church office, wc’s and disabled access platform allows access to the first floor which has transformed the way in which the church operates. Views into the church are also possible from the lobby to the Chapter House using a fully glazed door in an arched opening.
As part of the major scheme, the church has now been refurbished with a new stone floor throughout using a highly specialised permeable sub-floor in order not to cause further deterioration to the columns. A new lighting scheme by a specialist lighting designer had previously been carried out which has transformed the church. Further minor changes have been made including the removal of the very uncomfortable pews to enhance this very attractive church building.
